How it's used
The saradu is placed before the Goddess along with the kalasham and worshipped through the pooja.
For Varalakshmi Vratham, it is tied on the right wrist at the end of the pooja — usually by an elder, or by the women of the house for one another.
For Karadaiyan Nombu, the same thread is tied around the neck after the nombu adai and butter are offered, worn by married women praying for their husband's long life, and by unmarried girls for the same blessing ahead.
Traditions differ from house to house on the number of knots, the flowers used and when it comes off.
