Description

Fried Modak (Fried Kozhukattai / Talniche Modak) – Traditional Sweet Dumplings for Ganesh Chaturthi & Ganapathi Homam

Fried Modak, also known as Fried Kozhukattai in South India and Talniche Modak in Maharashtra, is a deep-fried sweet dumpling filled with a flavorful blend of jaggery and coconut. With its crispy, flaky outer shell and deliciously rich filling, this festive sweet is specially prepared as Naivedyam (offering) to Lord Ganesha during Ganesh Chaturthi, monthly Sankatahara Chaturthi, and Ganapathi Homams.

While North Indians celebrate with Ukdiche Modak (steamed) and Talniche Modak, in South India, Fried Modagam holds deep spiritual significance. It is traditionally prepared in specific counts like 16, 21, 51, or 108 as prescribed by priests during rituals, especially for Ganapathi Homam — an auspicious pooja performed to seek blessings for new ventures, jobs, home entries, and success in all endeavors.
